Congratulations – Your job search is over! Now that you have secured the next step in your career, it’s time to start thinking about how you are going to show up and excel at this new job.

After you sign your W2 and enroll in benefits, it’s time to start prepping for your first day on the job! Here are a few tips for your first day on the job:

  1. Review your first-week agenda as soon as you get it! Sync up your new schedule with your existing schedule so you can avoid confusion and stay on top of your agenda.
  1. Take time to set up your computer before you start. Sign in to your new work email and any accounts or required software. Don’t forget to charge your computer!
  1. Map out your commute to see how long it will take you to get to the office. It’s always a good idea to drive the route before you start so you know where to go and park.
  1. Make sure you understand the dress code at your new office and pick out your outfit before you go to bed. If you intend to work out, pre-pack your gym bag!
  1. Pack your passport, license, or anything else you may need to complete your final paperwork in the morning. Your company will let you know which you need if any!
  1. Get a good night’s rest. Try and make sure that you are well rested for the information loaded week you’re about to have!
  1. Arrive 15 minutes early to the office in the morning. You will want to set up your desk, finalize the paperwork, and troubleshoot your new equipment before your first meeting, training session, or project!
  1. Get familiar with the office layout, meet your new coworkers, and figure out break times. Make sure to pick up on any little nuances of your new work space and coworkers!
  1. Be 10 minutes early to your first meeting at your new office, and get ready for icebreakers!

10. Work with your manager to get a list of actionable items you can start working on in between meetings and orientation. The first week can feel scrambled with all the information you have to absorb, so breaking it up with tasks is advised.

Good luck on your first day, and keep that momentum going throughout the whole week! Remember it takes 21 days to establish a new routine, so stick with your new agenda and it will be second nature in no time!
